Honor Guard Services To Be Held

On May 30, 1998 at 2 P.M. in the Paradise Veterans Memorial Hall, Honor Guard services will be held for the late Lt. Lonnie M. (Mike) Weaver, a 22 year Army Veteran and survivor of the * Bataan "Death-March" in the Philippines, the Tottori Maru, the Korean labor camp at Mukden all totaling over 41 months. His POW number was #261 of section #29. Mike was born in Deming NM, joined the 111 Coast Artillery, HQ Squadron and was shipped to the Philippines to train their forces in preparation to defend against the expected Japanese invasion.

Mike served on the following fraternal organizations while living in the Chico area; Chico Lions, Elks, Masonic Lodge #111 and the Paradise VFW. Mike was a Boy Scout Master in the Sacramento area and a Little League Coach of a championship team in Nuremberg Germany. He raced Micro Midgets in Oregon,traveled and he enjoyed deep water fishing in the San Francisco Bay as well as trout fishing and camping near North State streams and lakes.

The many past times of Mike were small engine repair, carpentry, and Bid Contractor for Butte Creek Rock Company in the late 60’s.

Mike passed away Feb 1, 1998 at age 78. Kurt Freeman will perform the eulogy accompanied by soloist Joan Anderson.
